Character 2 Name: Guthrie

Physical description: A guy in his late 30s, young, good looking. About 5’11 or 6ft. Short brown hair, brown eyes or blue eyes.

Personally description: Distressed, short with words, tired, sad, nice.

I would choose either Patrick Dempsey or James Marsden because they both look similiar to what I imagine Tom Guthrie would look like.

Character 3 Name Maggie Jones

Physical description: Medium brown hair, well dressed, brown eyes  pretty and simple.  About 5’9.

Personality description: Sweet, caring, responsible, stressed, happy kind, lonely.

I choose Hilary Swank to play the role of Maggie Jones because it reminds me of what she would look like.

Being a teacher, taking care of two boys, preparing meals and food for them and waking them up.

He seems really sad because his wife seems ill, and he seems the most responsible for these two boys.

Finding himself between being a teacher, and being at home with his struggling family.

Character 2 Name: Victoria Roubideaux

• What are the strengths of this character?

She is preparing to be have a child at such a young age, while living with two people that she isn’t used to living with since she was rejected by her mother.

• What are the weaknesses of this character?

Her weakness is that she’s pregnant at such a young age, she’s probably not as responsible as other parents are since she’s a lot younger. She also has stuggling relationship with her mother.

• What has been the defining moment for this character so far? In other words, what is something the character has said or done that identifies him or her?

That she is a pregnant teen, who has been kicked out by her mother.

Who is the father, and what is their history?

Character 3 Name: Ike and Bobby

• What are the strengths of this character?

They are still young, so they aren’t aware of the problems around them, around their mother, and father.

• What are the weaknesses of this character?

The fact that they are always asking about their mother shows the distance they have in their family.

• What has been the defining moment for this character so far? In other words, what is something the character has said or done that identifies him or her?

They are the children of the school teacher, who’s wife is ill.

Are they going to become closer to either their mother or father as they get older?

I am reading the book “Plainsong”. The author, Kent Haruf, is an award winning American novelist. I choose this book out of six other options because the story sounded the most interesting out of all of them. During the literature circles, I am looking forward to talking about the story and hearing what other people have to say about the book, and what they find interesting about it.
